Soluble vs neat cutting oil
Soluble oils (emulsions) cool better and suit high-speed turning, milling and grinding. Neat oils lubricate better and suit slow, heavy cuts, gear hobbing, broaching, threading and deep-hole drilling. Metal matters too. Active sulphurised oils (SERVOcut 945) stain yellow metals, while chlorinated or inactive oils are safer on non-ferrous work. For sump life and odour control, see the cutting oil concentration guide.

For general turning and milling of steel and cast iron, SERVOcut S at around 5% is the standard choice. For longer emulsion life or heavier machining, use SERVOcut Super at 5–10%. For grinding, use SERVOsynth 2/5 or leaner SERVOcut S emulsions.
