About Shell Omala S2 GX 680
Shell Omala S2 GX 680 (earlier Omala S2 G 680 / Omala 680) is the ISO VG 680 grade of Shell's EP industrial gear oil family, which Shell lists against DIN 51517-3 CLP, ISO 12925-1 CKC/CKD and AIST (US Steel) 224.
Before you switch
If the gearbox OEM mandates DIN 51517-3 (CLP) or micropitting protection, IOCL lists Servomesh Plus (DIN 51517 CLP, AGMA 9005-D95, Flender AG, US Steel 224, David Brown S1.53.101). Ask us for the Plus grade in the same viscosity.
Changeover checklist
- Confirm viscosity and the gearbox OEM's performance class (e.g. DIN 51517-3 CLP, AGMA EP, micropitting requirement).
- Drain warm, flush heavily sludged boxes, and inspect gear flanks and breathers.
- Mineral EP gear oils are normally compatible. Never mix mineral with PAG synthetics.
- Refill to the sight-glass mark. Check temperature and noise after the first shift.
