Chemical and fertilizer plants run gas compressors, agitator gearboxes, thermic heaters and pumps, often in corrosive atmospheres. IOCL lists special compressor grades for ammonia and syn-gas service.

What goes wrong, and how to prevent it
Gas service needs compressor oils that resist gas dilution and oxidation. Never substitute a general air-compressor oil in ammonia or syn-gas service without OEM approval.
